"Scrubs" is an American medical comedy-drama television series created by Bill Lawrence that aired from October 2, 2001 to March 17, 2010 on NBC and later ABC. The series follows the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart teaching hospital. The title is a play on surgical scrubs and a term for a low-ranking person because at the beginning of the series, most of the main characters were medical interns.
The series features fast-paced screenplay, slapstick, and surreal vignettes presented mostly as the daydreams of the central character, Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, who is played by Zach Braff. Actors starring alongside Braff in the first eight seasons included Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes. The series has also featured multiple guest appearances by film actors, such as Brendan Fraser, Heather Graham, and Colin Farrell.
In the ninth season, many new cast members were introduced and the show setting moved from a hospital to a medical school. Out of the original cast, only Braff, Faison and McGinley became regular cast members, while the others with the exception of Reyes, made guest appearances. Braff appeared in six episodes of the ninth season before departing. Kerry Bishé, Eliza Coupe, Dave Franco and Michael Mosley became series regulars with Bishé becoming the show's new narrator.
Scrubs premiered on October 2, 2001 on NBC. The show received a Peabody Award in 2006 for "fearlessly smashing traditional comic formulas, all the while respecting the deepest emotional and moral issues of its life-and-death setting."
During the seventh season, NBC announced that it would not renew the show. Shortly after the seventh season finale, ABC announced that it had picked up the series for a new season and on January 6, 2009, the eighth season of Scrubs premiered on ABC. The ninth season, which premiered on December 1, 2009 on ABC, features several new cast members and is set at a new facility. On May 14, 2010, ABC announced it had officially canceled Scrubs.

Scrubs - Season 9
The ninth and final season of the American comedy-drama television series Scrubs (also known as Scrubs: Med School) premiered on ABC on December 1, 2009 and concluded on March 17, 2010 and consists of 13 episodes. This season marked a major change in the series; it takes place at a different location and only three of the seven main characters from the first eight seasons remained as regular main characters. The rest of the cast is made up of new recruits, including Lucy, played by Kerry Bishé, who is also the show's new narrator. Former star Zach Braff returned for six episodes of the season.
The new season focuses on students at a med school at the fictional Winston University, rather than interns at a hospital. Doctors Perry Cox and Christopher Turk, played by John C. McGinley and Donald Faison respectively, returned as teachers. The show's filming location moved from the North Hollywood Medical Center to sets at Culver Studios. The series takes place at the new Sacred Heart Hospital, located on the Winston University campus.
The season takes place over a year after the events of the last episode of the eighth season, "My Finale", which was expected to be the last episode and ended many of the series' long-running storylines. However, Bill Lawrence was approached concerning more episodes, and as a result, the show entered its ninth season.
Review aggregator Metacritic found critical reception to the new format to be "generally positive" and assigned an average score of 64/100, though reviews were varied, with the Chicago Sun Times calling the season "promising", but USA Today dismissing it as a "deal-driven mistake".
The season nonetheless saw Scrubs receive its lowest-ever ratings, with an average of 3.79 million tuning in, down from 5.61 million the previous season (though the show's overall ranking had improved).
Zach Braff announced on March 22, 2010 via Facebook that it appeared that Scrubs would not be renewed for a tenth season. On May 14, 2010, ABC announced the show was canceled.

J.D. gets insanely jealous but Drew is still mad that Cox is aggressively taking an interest in him. Later, in class, Drew answers all of the difficult questions Cox asks. Cole later tells Drew to watch himself because he wants to be #1 in the class. During rounds, Cox spots a coding patient. He asks Drew to handle it but Drew cripples under pressure and storms off. J.D. steps in to help. Later, at the bar, Drew approaches Cox, who ignores him and hurls a general insult at people who've wasted his time. Upset, Drew asks J.D. for help but J.D. tells him that once set in his ways, Cox is impossible to convince to change his mind. Turk overhears this and makes J.D. talk to Cox nonetheless. At the Owlcat's football game, J.D. tells Cox that it has taken him a long time to find someone he could believe in, and that he shouldn't throw it away after one mistake. Cox takes his advice and calls on Drew during his next lecture, and informs him that he has to wear the shirt the next day. J.D. smiles, but is angered when Cox pats Drew on the back.
After waking up next to Cole, Lucy attends Cox's lecture, where she freezes when he asks her a question. She then meets with J.D. in his favorite tree and he informs her that she should start looking for a new mentor since he is leaving soon. Wanting to find a female mentor, Lucy asks Denise. Denise initially refuses to let her shadow her, but when she gets a patient, Mrs. Maroney, with a similar personality to Lucy's, Denise asks Lucy to take care of her while Denise takes care of her son. Denise grows fond of the boy, but when she finds out that Mrs. Maroney is terminally ill, she abandons him. Denise asks Lucy to talk to the boy and make sure he is alright, but before she can, Denise steps in herself and comforts him, giving him her cell phone number. Denise then gives Lucy permission to shadow her.

About this Scrubs episode:
Scrubs - Our First Day of School is the 1st episode in season 9 and number 170 overall in the series. It was originally aired on December 1, 2009.
The episode begins by introducing the changes made to the show; the former Sacred Heart Hospital has been torn down and a new one has been built on the campus of Winston University Medical School. J.D., Turk, Dr. Cox and Dr. Kelso have arrived to teach classes. Elliot Reid is now married to J.D. and expecting their first child. Meanwhile, three new medical students are introduced: Lucy Bennett, a self-conscious loner keen to make new friends; Cole Aaronson, an arrogant rich kid whose father funded the new hospital, and Drew Suffin, a 30-something med school dropout trying again after a decade away.
After getting off to a poor start with Denise, the new student adviser, and then being berated by Dr. Cox, Lucy grows discouraged. She sleeps with Cole, whom she met in class, to boost her self-esteem. However, Cole surreptitiously takes a nude photo of her when she gets out of bed, which he prints and accidentally drops on the university campus. J.D. sees the picture drop, but when he goes to pick it up the wind blows it along the ground, and J.D. gives chase - all the way to where Lucy happens to be sitting. After an awkward moment, the two talk briefly and Lucy asks J.D. for help with Dr. Cox. He tells her to stand up to Cox to show him she has courage. Lucy does just that - sort of - and begins to feel better about herself.
Meanwhile, Denise is adjusting to her new role as student adviser. She tries to convince Drew to take care of her responsibilities by telling him the other students "look up to him," but he rejects her suggestion and says he wants to "stay under the radar." Drew and Denise copulate soon after. The next day, Drew suggests to Dr. Cox that he shouldn't "pick on" the weakest students - meaning Lucy. Cox responds by saying he will instead focus all of his enmity at Drew, henceforth demanding high results from him and ordering him to wear a paper "#1" sign everywhere he goes.

Scrubs - Season 8
The eighth season of the American comedy-drama television series Scrubs premiered on ABC on January 6, 2009 and concluded on May 6, 2009 and consists of 19 episodes. The eighth season was the first to be shown on ABC after NBC dropped the series, ending its seven-year run on the network. ABC's pick-up of the show was followed by it commissioning nineteen episodes, which included an hour-long finale. For all of the season's run, it was expected that the eighth season would be the last, especially after the show's creator Bill Lawrence announced it. After rumors surfaced of a ninth season, it was understood that the eighth would be the last to star Zach Braff and much of the main cast. However, the show was later re-commissioned for another season, in which Braff and other cast members appeared for multiple episodes.[1] The eighth season was the first to air in high definition.
Needing to cut costs for the eighth season, Bill Lawrence stated that he divided the writing staff up into two groups, half for the first nine episodes and half for the second nine episodes.[2] Additionally, each main cast member was absent for three episodes during the season (except Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke who are absent for two). An accompanying web series that aired on ABC's website called Scrubs: Interns was also created to coincide with the season, starring the new interns with guest appearances by the main cast.

Scrubs - Season 8 - Episode 19 - My Finale (Part 2)

About this Scrubs episode:
Scrubs - My Finale is the 19th episode in season 8 and number 169 overall in the series. It was originally aired on May 6, 2009.

Watching his terminal patient, J.D. sits with Carla, who defends him against Dr. Cox one last time as he walks by. J.D. asks her why she has always been so nice and never harassed him the way she does Dr. Cox. Carla reminds him that he is "Bambi" and she wanted to teach him. They have a tender moment as J.D. thanks her for teaching him, and they say how much they are going to miss each other.
Later in the cafeteria, Jordan says goodbye to J.D., reminiscing about how they had slept together, and then kisses him on the cheek before realizing with horror how nice she had just been. She then makes things right by insulting Ted, who allows her to because "[She] needs it". The Janitor attempts to demonstrate to J.D. how suddenly accusing someone will make them own up to what they did in a pre-rehearsed trick with the intern Denise, who walks off unfazed. Janitor tells J.D. one last time to admit putting the penny in the door, and J.D. finally cracks, saying that he did it, but it was eight years ago and an accident. The penny had fallen out of his pocket and rolled into the door, and J.D. hadn't owned up because it was his first day and didn't want Janitor to be mad at him so early on. When J.D. asks if Janitor believes him, he replies that he saw the incident happen, and only asked J.D. back then if he was responsible as a test of character. J.D. had failed the test, starting the feud and missing out on a great friendship with the Janitor.
As he is preparing to leave, he sees Dr. Cox ranting at the intern Sunny. He finally relents, admitting to himself that Cox is gruff and insensitive, yet still a great teacher. He thanks Dr. Cox for everything, before moving on. Turk and Elliot both rush up to J.D. and apologize for saying their goodbyes too early, but he understands. He's glad that Elliot is moving in with him, she crazily blurts out that she has sub-let her house and they now officially live together.
At the end of J.D.'s shift, the Janitor actually offers his goodbye to him. They wish each other luck and the Janitor reveals his name as Glenn Matthews; however, an orderly then calls him "Tommy", making it uncertain whether this is indeed his real name.
As he walks through the ICU for the final time, J.D. thinks of how he is lucky to have gotten what he has from the day, he says his goodbye to Dr. Cox before leaving.
Sunny tells Dr. Cox how glad she is that J.D. is finally leaving. Dr. Cox replies that he considers J.D. a talented doctor, a good person, and a friend. J.D. (who had planned this in advance with Sunny) is secretly behind him and hears the whole thing, finally hugging a mortified Dr. Cox.
J.D. then walks through the halls of Sacred Heart for the last time and, as he does, he sees visions of many of the people he has encountered over his eight years there. He sees his family, ex-girlfriends, former patients and co-workers before walking out the door for the last time. Upon leaving, he makes his final inner monologue about being able to shape his own unknown future. He visualizes a film of his future playing on the still hanging "Goodbye J.D." cloth, showing him marrying Elliot, having a child with her, sharing Christmas with Elliot, Turk, Carla, Dr. Cox, Jordan and all their children, his grown son Sam getting engaged to Turk's grown daughter, Isabella, and showing off to J.D. and Turk, him hugging everybody in those visions, and finally him getting an honest hug from Dr. Cox. This sequence is constructed in a musical montage style, and is accompanied by a Peter Gabriel cover of "The Book of Love", originally written by the Magnetic Fields. The cloth is torn down by an unfamiliar janitor (played by series creator Bill Lawrence) who says goodnight to him. With that, J.D. gets into his car and drives off.

About this Scrubs episode:
Scrubs - My Finale is the 18th episode in season 8 and number 168 overall in the series. It was originally aired on May 6, 2009.
On the morning of his last day, J.D. lies in bed next to Elliot as he thinks back to his first day at Sacred Heart. Elliot reveals she has been "sneak moving in" by slowly replacing J.D.'s stuff with her own. At the hospital, Turk greets J.D. with a giant goodbye banner in front of the main entrance and a final "full-turbo spinning eagle" as his goodbye to his best friend. J.D. realizes Turk said goodbye too early and the moment will be ruined later so they decide to have intense hugs whenever they run into each other. Meanwhile, at the hospital's CoffeeBucks, Dr. Kelso tells Carla and Ted he wants to be a doctor again, albeit part-time, and he won't be hanging around Sacred Heart any more. Kelso grabs his last free muffin and plans to steal a table from the CoffeeBucks.
J.D. hunts for Dr. Cox in hopes to receive a heartfelt goodbye from his mentor. He finds Dr. Cox and gives him a home-made anthology of all his long winded rants, each with a rating on how much they hurt J.D. Even though J.D. steals a laugh from him, Dr. Cox refuses to give him the sentimental moment or show any emotion. Afterwards, the Janitor confronts J.D. with the penny that had started their ongoing feud (now on a necklace that he wears) as he tries to finally get J.D. to admit he put it in the door. Later, after forgetting a patient's illness and name, J.D. feels like a terrible doctor. His day goes from bad to worse when he finds out another patient will eventually die from Huntington's disease and that he has to tell her son that he might have inherited the disease too. The son disregards J.D.'s advice and doesn't want to get tested.
J.D. storms outside with Elliot for some air, distraught that nobody else wants to give him a heartfelt goodbye. Elliot points out to the happy staffers yelling goodbye from the windows of the upper floors of the hospital. J.D. jumps at the chance to make a heartfelt yet clearly pre-rehearsed speech about his maturation at Sacred Heart, only to find that the goodbyes are meant for Dr. Kelso, who has taken his table and is finally leaving Sacred Heart a full year after his own retirement. Dr. Kelso reminds J.D. that no one ever really makes a big deal when someone leaves the hospital, but offers J.D. a handshake and proper farewell. This reenergizes J.D., determined to get his sentimental goodbye from Dr. Cox, who tells him this day is nothing special.
